So: it's been a while since you got your Table Guy wood table, it's finally time for a freshen up and you're wondering where to start. No worries, we've got you*.
Refreshing a our wood dining tables is incredibly easy, and doesn't require any special technique or equipment. It takes just 30 minutes and is great not only for restoring minor wear and tear (hairline scratches, unevenly worn out spots), but also keeps that protective seal on your wood material strong.
Here's our quick guide to refreshing your Table Guy wood table:
-
Frequency: Plan to oil your table at least once a year. We find it easiest just to tag it to a major holiday that you enjoy at home (Christmas, any of the New Years), so it's easy to keep track of your intervals.
-
Tools: You'll need gloves, good ventilation, and our Wood Care Essentials kit.
-
Method: Clean and dry your table. Start your timer for 15 minutes. Shake the bottle well, then apply some Maintenance Oil directly to the wood surface and use the white applicator pad to spread it evenly. Work in sections and make your way down your table. When your timer sounds, promptly remove all excess oil off with the buffing cloth. The table should be dry after you have finished buffing it. Refer to this demo video for the step-by-step process.
-
Tips: Clear all chairs and obstacles, and get all your tools prepped and in one place before starting. The applicator and buffing cloth are single use only, but you may have leftover oil - simply cap tightly and store in a cool, dry place. Leftover oil can be used for spot touch ups, if needed.
This is important: once you've buffed the excess oil off, plan for at least four hours of no-touch time (up to 24 hours for the best results). Make sure your table area is well-ventilated during this time.
By following these simple steps, you can prevent costly repairs and restoration down the line, and enjoy a fresh table. So, give your table some love today and make it last for years to come!
*Note: This guide applies only to tables made by The Table Guy Singapore. If you've got a table from another maker, you'll need to check with them directly.
