Size Matters: Find the Right Dining Table Size!

Size Matters: Find the Right Dining Table Size!

Are you tired of playing a game of Tetris every time you have dinner guests over? Finding the right size dining table for your house can be a challenge, but don't worry, we've got you covered! Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect table for your home.

First things first, you need to make sure you have enough floor space for your table. You don't want your guests to feel like they're trapped in a maze, trying to navigate around your furniture just to get to their seat. So, as a general rule of thumb, leave about 80-100cm of walking space between the edge of your table and the next hard surface, whether it's a cabinet, wall, or your cousin's over-sized ego.

Now that you have enough space to move around, let's talk seating capacity. You don't want your guests to feel like they're sitting in a crowded subway car during rush hour. Make sure to leave at least 60cm of elbow room per person, unless you want them to have the pleasure of eating with their elbows in their laps. A table that is 180-200cm long can usually accommodate up to 8 people who are still on good terms with each other.

But wait, there's more! You also need to think about the size of your chairs. You don't want your guests to feel like they're in a wrestling match every time they need to get in or out of their seat. So, here's a formula for you: Length of Table = Chair Width x 1.2 x Number of Chairs on The Long Side + 35cm It may sound complicated, but it's simple math. For example, if your chairs are 55cm wide, you'll need a 233cm long table to comfortably seat everyone and still have room to tuck your chairs in after use.

Last but not least, think about how often you'll use the full capacity of your table. Are you a couple who occasionally hosts dinner parties for a few friends, or are you part of a big family who loves to gather for nightly dinners? If you're using the full capacity of your table regularly, make sure everyone has enough space to sit and eat comfortably. But if you only have big gatherings once in a while, consider going for a smaller table to give you more space on regular days.

Choosing the right dining table can be a challenge, but it doesn't have to be a nightmare. Just remember to leave enough space for your guests to move around, make sure everyone has enough elbow room, and don't forget to do the math on chair and table size. With these tips, you'll have the perfect dining table in no time!
